INSPIRED BY NATURE

Taking cues from nature, the idea was to create a harmonious connection between the outside and the inside, all while giving you the peace of mind that your home contributes to your overall well-being.

❋ I led the design of the app with a human-centered, minimal, and purposeful approach. Highlights included developing a UI kit that maintained brand consistency and accessibility standards, ensuring its health, scalability and continued usefulness.

I designed the Nudges feature as an entry point, including its surrounding flows. Additionally, I refined the details of interaction design to achieve a high level of polish, created prototypes, conducted user testing, synthesized results, and mentored junior designers.

More than a remote control for smart windows.

The Connected Home app revolutionizes the relationship between users and their living spaces. By providing real-time insights and intuitive controls, it empowers homeowners with a sense of security and comfort. Our goal was to create an experience that transcends mere automation, fostering a genuine connection between users and their homes. The result is a smart ecosystem that anticipates needs, adapts to preferences, and ultimately gives users peace of mind, knowing their home is actively working to enhance their well-being.

CORE FEATURES

ENTRY POINT
1

Nudges & Events

The Nudges and Events section of the app encourages users to take a positive action, such as enjoying the nice weather by opening a window. Additionally, the app will share upcoming events that are driven by a schedule or automation. The nudges will feature imagery that perfectly matches the messaging and location of the home, complete with subtle motion to bring a sense of wellness and delight to the user.
2

Quick access controls

To improve time on tasks and enable seamless transitions between individual and whole-home control, whether on-demand or automatic, large buttons with intuitive icons helps users choose the right option quickly while giving them visibility of system status at a glance.
SCENES
1

Group navigation

A top navigation allows users to apply a scene to the whole home or a specific group, as well as see what’s active.
2

Scene cards

Scene cards communicate what to expect when activating a scene. Pre-built scenes are offered to educate users and reduce interaction effort.
3

Custom scenes

Users can choose to create custom scenes combining air, light and views as well as add them to a schedule.
SCHEDULE
1

Weekly calendar

A weekly calendar view allows users to see what’s upcoming.
2

Scheduled events

Scheduled events show up in order of when they will happen. If they are overridden by environmental factors (e.g rain) that will also be communicated.
3

Add to schedule

Users can add manual/auto events or scenes to their schedules.
AUTOMATION
1

Open if / Close if

The Automation Preferences tab contains the parameters governing automated window opening/closing.
2

Range Preferences

Environmental factors can be enabled or disabled and users can customize ranges to suit their needs.
3

Defaults

Recommended ranges are provided by default with the ability to revert to these if needed.

I created a comprehensive UI kit and pattern library of flexible, hardworking components. These components scale effectively across internal teams while adhering to accessibility standards, best practices and brand guidelines.

GO-TO-MARKET

To support the launch of the Marvin Connected Home App, I created several print pieces and a premium unboxing experience for the home owner as well as installation and maintenance booklets.

Marvin.com

During the migration of the Marvin.com website to a new Sitecore platform, I was responsible for refreshing the design. Along with revamping feature pages, I created a component library, and incorporated several UX/UI improvements.
